Don Ealy

Dear Friends,

It is with great sadness and a huge sense of loss that we share with you that Don Ealy passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2007.

As you know, Don was our treasured artist for almost 20 years. His wonderful sense of humor and his celebration of life and its riches were apparent in his paintings.

His boats from Anacortes, Port Townsend, and Bodega Bay showed off his great sense of perspective, shadow, and light. When Don went to the big horse fairs up north he would paint an incredible array of paintings that brought those gentle giants to life.

Don loved music and could play a variety of instruments, but especially loved his violin and guitar. He would go to a symphony and sketch musicians by the score. His paintings of musicians are some of his best. My favorite, his wonderful menagerie of animals from cows to pigs, from llamas to roosters are loved by all. These cheerful characters flew off the walls and into collections.

Don’s landscapes are filled with texture, light, and nuance that add a feeling of age to the canvas and were often mistaken for Early California pieces. His blending of color and deft talent set him apart from other artists.

We will miss you, dear friend. You are forever in our hearts and your art will bring us joy throughout our lives. Nancy
